The BluePump is more easy to install than any other handpump. BluePump dealers provide training on demand as well as a quick technical update for local pump mecanics that are already familiar with handpump installtion.

The riser pipes of the BluePump are made of strong PVC pipes, connected with glue-sockets. PVC is perfect for all types of groundwater, it is relatively light, not expensive and easy to work with. However, when PVC pipes are over 40m. they will stretch up and down during pumping which can cause small cracks and leaks after some years.

Therefore FairWater developed the Bottom Support option. This option is strongly recommended in case the cylinder is situated below 40m. We have over 8 years experience with Bottom Support installation with very good resuts all over Africa.

The BluePump can therefore be installed in two ways:
1. With rising main hanging on the T-piece,
2. With the rising main supported with Bottom Support pipes.

1. Hanging pipes installation < 40m.

In case of shallow static water tables (not deeper as 25 to 30m.) the cylinder can be installed in PVC rising mains that are “hanging” at a flange-socket inside the base plate.

- fix the base-plate on the 6 anchor bolts,
- lower the PVC pipes with the flat rope,
- glue the T-piece to the last upper pipe,
- place the pedastal over the T-piece,
- lower the cylinder with the rods into the riser pipes,
- fit the handle and connect the rods to the handle,
- fit the spout to the T-piece,
- place the cap and start pumping.

2. Bottom Support Installation >40m.

This procedure is the same as for the hanging pipes, only the  beginning and the end are different.
- You need also a Bottom Sump Screen pipe, and a standard screen pipe,
- In the end, you do NOT glue the T-piece to the last upper PVC pipe, but instead you cut the last pipe at the level of the base-plate and push the T-piece with the Bottom Support extention pipe over the PVC pipe in the borehole to allow a flexible connection.

Rehabilitation of abandoned handpumps with the BluePump

In Africa many handpumps are not functional. However, the (expensive) borehole is still usable. Therefore it is cost-effective to rehabilitate abandoned handpumps with the durable BluePump, which fits directly on the 4 bolts of the pedestal of old India or Afridev handpump. Rehabilitation is easy and fast.

Please note that old boreholes may have silt accumulated on the bottom and the PVC pipes may slowly sink 10 to 20 cm. in the first months. To compensate for this, the rods as well as the rising main need to be extended with the same length.
